Oracle to MySQL - 8 weeks assessment

Our approach of Oracle database migration to MySQL DB on Azure, in general, could be summarized as:

1. Pre-migration check-list preparation
2. Offline versus online migrations to determine whether the downtime is acceptable; if not, to be prepared for online/minimal down time migration options
3. Preparation of target MySQL Database on Azure
4. Validate the migration steps

Week 1

Collect the application and Database server inventory with below details :-

1. Hostname, IP Address & OS version
2. Application name
3. Database version
4. Application/database environment details ( Dev/test/non-prod/Prod)
5. Application Criticality, RPO/RTO and Data classification details.

Week 2-Week 3

Run the discovery tool ( Compass ) for collecting the infrastructure and database details, 2-weeks performance utilization data for target sizing , server to server and application to application dependency data.

Week 4- Week 5

After collecting the data from discovery & assessment phase, analyzing on-prem/cloud Oracle database to decide the migration difficulties and efforts estimation. Mindtree cloud team analysis the Oracle database objects, code, dependencies on external objects, data volumes, and features etc.

Week 6-Week 7

In this phase Mindtree creates the Database migration strategy plan, wave group planning as per the application Criticality, Identify an application suitable for the Pilot migration, recommended architecture and implementation approach, Migration timeline, requirement based on the migration difficulties.

Week 8

After collecting all the detail in previous phases, Mindtree prepares the final Assessment report and present the same to all the application and business stack holders
