Are you using Event Hubs for your applications? Monitor the consumer lag to improve reliability.
Are you a developer, DevOps or Site ReIiability Engineer? Are you using Event Hubs in your applications? It is important to include them in your monitoring. Event Hubs provide no built-in way to monitor the lag between consumers and producers. Use Lag Metrics to fill that gap.
Key Benefits & Features
- Track the number of not yet consumed messages per Event Hub and consumer group and expose it as a metric to Azure Monitor.
- Newly created Event Hubs and consumer groups are automatically discovered and included in the monitoring.
- Create Azure monitor alert rules based on these metrics.
- Notify your team when consumers cannot keep up with producers and start falling behind.
- Visualize the lag on Azure or Grafana dashboards.
Background
When the lag (the offset difference between producers and consumers in the context of a consumer group) increases, the latency of data processing goes up as well. Messages remain unprocessed for longer and longer, causing essential data to be outdated. It can even lead to data-loss, when consumers fall so far behind that data is expired from Event Hubs before it gets consumed.
About us
We have developed numerous mission critical applications on Azure and know from experience where Azure shines and where there are shortcomings. We try to make it an even better platform using Azure Marketplace offers like this one.
