Azure IoT Edge on Ubuntu

Microsoft

Easily deploy Edge intelligence and analytics to Ubuntu virtual machines with Azure IoT Edge

Azure IoT Edge is a fully managed service that delivers cloud intelligence locally by deploying and running artificial intelligence (AI), Azure services, and custom logic directly on cross-platform IoT devices. Run your IoT solution securely and at scale—whether in the cloud or offline. Use this preconfigured virtual machine as an IoT Edge device to get started quickly, and easily automate and scale your testing.

This virtual machine will install the latest Azure IoT Edge runtime and its dependencies on startup, and makes it easy to connect to your IoT Hub.

New to Azure IoT Edge? Start with the Linux quickstart, then during the Edge runtime installation instructions, SSH or remote desktop into your Azure IoT Edge virtual machine and skip to the config.yaml editing step.

You can also connect this VM to your IoT Hub by setting the connection string remotely with the run command "runshellscript" feature (via Azure portal or command line interface) to execute: /etc/iotedge/configedge.sh "<your_iothub_edge_connection_string>"

If you are new to using virtual machines on Azure, it is easier to use a password-based administrator account instead of an SSH public key, and also to enable SSH as a public inbound port during VM creation for straightforward remote access. Learn more at the Azure Linux Virtual machines documentation.
