Network File System is a network protocol that allows servers and clients to share data over a network. NFS is supported in Windows Server 2022 Azure Edition through the NFS Server role, which can be set up by either Server Manager or PowerShell.

The most widely used NFS protocol versions are supported by Windows Server 2022 Azure Edition, enabling clients to access shared files using either NFS v3 or v4.1. Moreover, the NFS Server has several performance tweaking options, such as increasing the size of NFS read and write buffers and configuring the number of worker threads.

The NFS server can be configured to use Active Directory authentication and authorization to manage access to shared files. This provides a centralized, secure way to manage access to files, so install our NFS Server and you won’t be disappointed!

NFS uses the Remote Procedure Call (RPC) protocol to facilitate communication between the client and server. The NFS protocol operates on top of different transport protocols, including TCP/IP and UDP/IP, enabling NFS to work over local area networks (LANs) or wide area networks (WANs).
