Informatica to Azure Data Factory migration with ADELE: 4-Wk Proof of concept

Adastra, s.r.o

If you need to migrate your legacy Informatica ETLs to Microsoft Azure, we have a solution for you. We offer you a 4 weeks proof of concept that shows how to do such a migration project effectively.

Cost savings for the migration project

Migrating a legacy data warehouse or data management solution to Microsoft Azure is often a very expensive project. The great complexity lies mainly in the re-platforming of the ETL logic into the target technology. The ADELE tool will help you save up to 50% of the migration project costs related to migration of Informatica mappings to Azure Data Factory or Azure Synapse Data Factory.

ADELE Tool

ADELE is a tool that automatically migrates roughly 80% of Informatica mappings into Azure Data Factory. It depends on the complexity of mappings (usually 99% of low complexity mappings, 90% of medium complexity mappings and 50% of high complexity mappings). ADELE is a modern tool built in cloud technologies with intuitive and user-friendly interface. Due to cost savings, it is a big differentiator of migration projects. In addition, ADELE can improve regular ETL development process by converting SQL prototypes into Azure Data Factory.

Scope

Step 1: Discovery Workshops Adastra will prepare and lead discovery workshop with your organization to find out specifics of your legacy solution and determine what the best way to migrate solution into the cloud is. We will also select components most suitable for automatic migration using ADELE tool with aim to maximize cost savings.

Step 2: ADELE configuration and ETL conversion patterns setup We will configure and parametrize ADELE tool to specifics of your Informatica solution. We will address specific ETL patterns which are not easily convertible due to Informatica vs. ADF differences and will propose refactoring workarounds (for example self referencing Informatica local variables).

Step 3: Sample migration Our team will demonstrate sample migration which includes:

  • Migration of 12 Informatica mappings into Azure Data Factory
  • Configuration of source and target datasets
  • Generation of test cases for each converted ETL
  • Assuming source data is provided, ADF data flows will be processed and target tables compared to original tables

Step 4: Evaluation Adastra will prepare final report summarizing POC findings, assessing complexity of entire migration project, providing indicative effort estimates for the whole migration and proposed migration roadmap.
