Assist customer in the migration of Windows and SQL services to Azure
BT Enterprise has built a comprehensive set of services to support the migration of Windows and SQL into Microsoft Azure. These services provide a structured approach and allow our customers to be immersed in transformation exercises, as well as providing detailed plans using our Cloud Maturity Map. All of these services are provided via the BT Enterprise Cloud Adoption Framework, which is made up of 6 phases, starting with Phase 1 - Strategy and Vision where we work with our customers to understand drivers for change at the business and application layers. Phase 2 - Discovery and Assess reviews the current IT estate, focusing on applications services and current costs. Phase 3- Design takes all of the information gathered during Phase 1/2 and consolidates it into a comprehensive design document detailing how Azure services will be deployed for the customer, details transformation activities for Windows and SQL services and maps all services into a Cloud Maturity Map (CMM) which enables a clear view of migration activities developed on a per service basis. Phase 4 - Cloud Engagement Framework (CEF) has been developed to ensure all areas of a Cloud migration have been taken into consideration before the transformation commenced. This includes service security, end user knowledge, data governance, data security, policies, etc. CEF culminates in a change to the CMM based on our findings. The final two elements of our CAF focus on Transformation of application services and continual Optimisation once in the Azure. The Transformation phase works through the recommendation/design documents and the CMM to migrate Windows and SQL services using a structured approach. During this phase, BT will also migrate data into PaaS and SaaS services as per the customer requirements. We will also deploy pre-built reference architectures for the customer. Optimisation is a key phase of the project as it's a continual process and where possible is automated to reduce end user interaction. Services such as Window and SQL patch management, Windows and SQL server backup and monitoring are configured in Azure and either passed to the end user or to BT Enterprises Managed Service teams for in-life support.
