AT&T ORC Detection – for pilot purposes only: Description

How Organized Retail Crime Detection works: When a Wi-Fi enabled device comes into a client-defined proximity of a facility it is assigned a unique ID by the iViu IoT sensor. On notification that a crime was committed during a defined period and location, the system flags the device (person) as a person of interest for future analysis. If the same device(s) is seen during a second crime-related event it is further identified as a potential bad actor. In subsequent situations where that device is detected (until cleared), alerts are automatically sent to notify the SOC, corporate staff, or other specific contacts (for example LP/AP individual) that a potential bad actor is detected at the specific location.

Moving forward, when any of these devices labeled as “potential bad actors” are detected at the client’s retail establishments, the system will execute the defined email notification process.

System functionality: The iViu privacy-compliant and noninvasive device tracking system captures Wi-Fi samples emitted from each device in proximity of a sensor. The sensor encrypts the time, location, and creates a unique ID; the iViu device fingerprint (iDF) and sends the data to iViu’s private cloud-based data repository via the secure cellular gateway. The iViu service then processes positions, aggregates, and stores the data for further processing or alerting. The iViu system continuously monitors for the transactions looking for “potential bad actors”; once a bad actor is detected an event is triggered in the iViu cloud to take action via a predetermined alert.

Privacy functionality: The proposed solution does not collect PII data such as mobile numbers, IP addresses, names, etc. It uses data broadcast by a device which the device makes public. If a device has Wi-Fi turned off, no data is broadcasted, and the sensors cannot “sense” the device. Customer can configure data retention policies meeting their business requirements for the iDF. No private or security data is transmitted to any client. All data is temporarily stored in iViu’s Private Cloud Repository only accessible by iViu’s internal services and processes. Alerts from the iViu cloud of a potential event is the only exchange of data between the retail clients. No other data other than described above will be accessible by the retail client.
