Alpine Linux is a Linux distribution designed to be small, simple and secure.

Alpine Linux is a security-oriented, lightweight Linux distribution based on musl, libc, busybox and OpenRC instead of the more commonly used glibc, GNU Core Utilities and systemd respectively.

Alpine's package management system is apk from apk-tools. A hardened kernel is included by default to aid in reducing the impact of exploits and vulnerabilities.

Alpine Linux follows the principles of the SSS distro: Simple+Small+Secure: due to usage of muslc as the minimalist libc, BusyBox simple coreutils (with possibilities to alternate on inflated original packages of each coreutils tools also) and userland binaries compiled as Position Independent Executables (PIE) with stack smashing protection.
