Windows Server 2016 with Easy Squid Proxy Server

Squid is a caching and forwarding HTTP web proxy. It has a wide variety of uses, including speeding up a web server by caching repeated requests, caching web, DNS and other computer network lookups for a group of people sharing network resources, and aiding security by filtering traffic.

Although primarily used for HTTP and FTP, Squid provides limited support for several other protocols including Internet Gopher, SSL, TLS, and HTTPS. Squid does not support the SOCKS protocol, unlike Privoxy, with which Squid can be used in order to provide SOCKS support.

Ability to operate in reverse proxy mode, also known as an "HTTP accelerator" is one of the key Squid features. In this case, instead of caching multiple users requests to multiple sites, those requests are cached.

In addition, a "reverse proxy" is able to distribute requests among multiple servers, balancing load and/or providing fault tolerance, that is, in fact, it provides functionality similar to a cluster.

After installation of a Squid, web browsers can be configured to use it as a proxy HTTP server, allowing Squid to retain copies of the documents returned, which, on repeated requests for the same documents, can reduce access time as well as bandwidth consumption. This comes in handy for ISP to increase their customer’s network performance and LANs that share an Internet connection.
