Terra is a scalable, secure research platform jointly developed by the Broad Institute, Microsoft, and Verily to help biomedical researchers accelerate scientific discoveries.

About This Offer

With this Azure Managed Application offer, you will be deploying an Azure Managed Resource Group in which all your storage and analysis resources you use within Terra are deployed. These resources will sit within your Azure Subscription.

This offer is not the Terra platform, but is the initial step required for linking Terra to your Azure subscription. The billing of these resources is passed through from Terra to your Azure Subscription so your existing Enterprise Agreements or discounts apply.

The Terra control plane deploys resources into Azure Managed Applications as needed, and these resources are managed and supported by the Broad Institute.

1. Terra is currently in preview, and you will need to request access from the Terra user interface before you can use the platform. Please navigate to app.terra.bio and request access if you have not yet done so prior to moving forward with this offer

2. Click on “Get it Now”

3. Create Azure Managed Application. You will need your Azure Subscription ID in order to complete this step

4. Once your Azure Managed Application (AMA) has been deployed, navigate to app.terra.bio to link Terra to your Azure Subscription, such that resources can be deployed into your AMA when working in Terra. You will need your Subscription ID for this step

5. You’re all set! Begin accessing data, running analysis, and collaborating with other researchers

6. You can track resources and cost going forward throughout your Terra journey from the Azure Portal, and you can grant permission for individuals to use your AMA through the Terra UI.

1. What is the cost to using Terra?

The Terra platform is free, but there is a cost for any Azure consumption (includes data storage and compute) used in Terra. After you register in Terra from app.terra.bio, you will link Terra to your Azure Subscription for all accrued costs. Your Azure pricing might vary if you have enterprise agreements or other discounts.

2. Why is my Managed App empty after it is deployed?

Terra deploys resources into your AMA as you begin working in Terra and once you have established the link between your Azure Managed App and the Terra Control Plane (done via the app.terra.bio user interface after you register).

3. How are resources charged?

All resources deployed into your AMA are charged back to your Azure Subscription using any in-place agreements or discounts for your use of Azure. Terra does not impose an overhead cost on any resource deployed into your AMA

4. Can I have multiple AMAs

Yes, you can create multiple AMAs and link them each to Terra from the Terra User Interface. Some reasons for doing so would include a need for resources to deployed into a different region.

5. Can I set up my AMA and use Terra in different regions?

All resources in your AMA will be created in the same region in which your AMA is set up. You cannot have resources in multiple regions within an AMA.

6. How can I track the spend within my AMA?

Use your standard Azure Subscription billing tools to get insights into your Azure consumption spend on Terra.
