Database Modernisation Discovery: 4-day Assessment

Moving SQL Server 2008 & Windows Server 2008 workloads to Microsoft Azure

Cobweb’s Database Modernisation services enable businesses to modernise an on-premises database platform by transitioning to Microsoft Azure. With Microsoft having ended support for Microsoft SQL Server 2008 and Microsoft Windows Server 2008 (on 19 July 2019 and 14 January 2020 respectively), and having announced extended support in Microsoft Azure, now is the time to transition an on-premises SQL Server databases to the cloud. End of support means no further updates - including security and bug fixes - while being in the cloud means increased agility, enhanced security generally, and lower costs. Cobweb’s Database Modernisation Discovery Assessment has been created to enable businesses of all size to address problems arising from legacy on-premises IT infrastructure, such as those with Microsoft SQL Server 2008 and Windows Server 2008 and facing end of support for these platforms. The service is based around a one-day onsite engagement with three days for wrap-round prep, report writing and results playback. During the discovery assessment, the Cobweb team will:

    • Gain a full understanding of your business systems transformation goals
    • Assess and review your existing IT infrastructure legacy systems (such as Microsoft SQL Server 2008 and Microsoft Windows Server 2008) to evaluate migration readiness
    • Identify a desired future state roadmap
    • Propose a new database architecture in Microsoft Azure.

As a follow-on, additional migration services are available. Based on the output of the assess phase and the agreed target solution, Cobweb will either using rehosting (a simple cost-effective ‘lift and shift’) or refactoring (moving applicable elements of your IT infrastructure to Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) solutions - to move your infrastructure and database workload into Azure.
