Enhanced Manufacturing & Maintenance Assistant: 10-Wk Proof of Concept

Lack of proper and timely identification of relevant information and KPIs within production and logistics processes leads to operational inefficiencies and disjointed strategies. This also negatively affects data integration and results in suboptimal alignment between outcomes and implementation, hindering operational excellence.

In complex modern manufacturing plants having access to the right information at the right time is often crucial in identifying problems and what causes them early on (or even in advance). It is also crucial for making the right adjustments to the manufacturing process in order to meet targets and KPIs. EMMA showcases a conversational interface for selected manufacturing and maintenance use cases with a human touch.

EMMA employs insightful dialogues, stakeholder interviews, and IT system capability evaluations to identify pertinent use cases within production and logistics processes. Leveraging the Smart Factory Navigator Methodology, it maps business outcomes to capabilities, creating a To-Be-Operating Model from the actual state. EMMA ensures stakeholder collaboration in piloting roadmaps, implementing value-added use cases across the value chain, and facilitating seamless data integration during rollouts across factory environments.

The current solution relies heavily on an Azure AI tech stack including Microsoft Azure AI Speech (for ASR and TTS) and Microsoft Azure Open AI service (choice between GPT3.5 turbo or GPT4). The final architecture as presented at Hannover Messe ‘24 it likely to contain additional Microsoft Azure services or Copilots.

At present the solution uses an open-source solution for the data retrieval component. Replacing this with a custom Microsoft Copilot is on our roadmap. In parallel, we will evaluate the option of including one or several pre-built Microsoft Copilots.
