How to successfully migrate workloads to the cloud.

As an Azure Expert MSP, Logicalis has extensive knowledge and experience in performing migrations into the cloud. Through our years of experience, Logicalis have identified methods that has helped refine and improve our migration approach to ensure the best business outcome for our customers.

We look at the number of servers per application rather than just the application, as an application could have 1 or many servers. This is the most balanced approach to deliver migration services

Logicalis’ lift and shift migration approach for customers provides:

  • A 5-stage mature migration approach comprising of “Discover -Migration planning – Migration prep – Migrate / Cutover – Onboarding / Handover".
  • Application discovery and dependency mapping dovetailing to the migration strategy.
  • Technical testing as well as customer acceptance tests.
  • Lift and shift migration of selected workloads in line with agreed migration strategy.
  • Configuration of data protection services for migrated workloads.
  • Flexible support options available for post-migration and hyper care support.
  • Quality delivery of any proposed offering by technically skilled resources.

    • This project will be delivered in 5 phases:

  • Discovery: Logicalis will work with Customer and respective stakeholders to complete a deep discovery of the environment based on the systems selected for migration.
  • Migration strategy and planning: As part of this stage a detailed planning session will be run to work through all workloads that will be migrated. A Migration Planning spreadsheet will be generated that details items related to the migration. It will be utilised to establish groups for migration, estimated timeframes and dates for migration activities.
  • Migration Preparation: Logicalis will be using native Azure tools for initial seeding of migrate workloads to Azure from their Hyper-V / VMware environment. Prior to starting this process, Logicalis will review the migration run sheet with the customer and make updates where necessary.
  • Migration: This phase will follow the migration factory approach, where the pre-migration, migration and post-migration tasks will take place.
  • Onboarding and clean-up: If Customer has in place a Cloud services agreement for managing Logicalis Production Ready Cloud foundational platform as well as the workloads being migrated, several tasks will be completed to enable successful handover to GSO for ongoing management of the Azure environment
