The Data Warehouse Modernization Assessment by Rackspace Technology can help create tangible deliverables on Microsoft® Azure® that accelerate modernization initiatives, can help you to assess the current state, performance, and overall health of their data warehouse infrastructure. The purpose of this assessment is to gain insights into the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats related to the data warehouse environment.

The assessment provides valuable insights and recommendations for optimizing the data warehouse environment, enhancing its performance, ensuring data quality, and aligning it with the organization's strategic goals. Based on the findings, organizations can develop action plans for data warehouse modernization, upgrades, or other improvements to better support their business operations and decision-making processes. 

The eight-week engagement has two sessions discovery and design: 

Discovery: Weeks 1-2 

  • Stakeholder interviews held to understand your current and desired data analysis future state. 
  • Metadata-driven data estate analysis across your data artefacts, pipelines, business logic and performance analysis. 
  • Review of your data warehouse costs, tools and processes, upstream and downstream dependencies and security. And evaluations for Azure Synapse, Azure Synapse Analytics and Azure Data Factory.

Migration Plan: Weeks 3-8 

  • Prepare recommendation report for target data platform based on report analysis and requirements for sizing, performance and scalability.  
  • Identify and document upstream and downstream dependencies, transformation and pipeline code update plan, and level of effort for data and code migration.  

Post-Workshop Deliverables: 

  • Complete analysis of your existing data warehouse workloads, complexity and migration choices  
  • Recommended migration plan and estimated effort to deploy  
  • Suggestions for your modern data platform architecture
