BookMedia is an innovative augmented reality platform for enriching books with digital content. It enables book publishers to link prepared digital multimedia content to any existing book or other type of 2D/3D objects like pictures, posters or cars. The BookMedia solution consists of two parts: the first part is an online platform intended for the technical preparation of digital content by book editors. The second part is a mobile application (on Android and iOS platforms) for consuming previously prepared content by end users. The online platform enriches the traditional book reading experience with multimedia elements, such as sound, video, images, text, 3D models, quizzes, interactive HTML modules, and links. The end user uses the mobile application by pointing the smartphone or tablet camera toward a part of the page, i.e., a picture in a book or some other type of 2D/3D object in space. The mobile application automatically recognizes (target) objects and displays multimedia content or an interactive application on the screen that is “stuck” (object tracking) to the target object. BookMedia is a unique solution, one of its kind, that has been awarded ten international awards for innovation in IT.
