NFS Storage File Server on Windows Server 2019
NFS Server is a server application which enables users to mount remote directories on their respective servers. The NFS protocol is one of several distributed file system standards for network-attached storage (NAS).
With NFS Server, the admin can mount full or a part of the file system on the server. The mounted partial part of the file system is accessible to clients as per permissions assigned on every file which can be either read-only or read-write rights. The requests between a server and client are routed through Remote Procedure Calls (RPCs).
NFS Server Features:
- Provides multi-protocol access to the same file share over both SMB and NFS protocols from multi-platform clients
- Provides non-Windows client computers access to NFS file shares
- Migrate applications from one operating system to another by storing the data on file shares accessible through both SMB and NFS protocols
- Supports the RPCSEC_GSS protocol, providing stronger security and allowing clients and servers to negotiate security
- Supports UNIX, Linux and Windows file semantics
- Takes advantage of clustered file server deployments
- Navigating firewalls is easier, improving accessibility
- Supports WAN-friendly compound procedures
- NFS module for Windows PowerShell
- UI console management of SMB and NFS shares, quotas, file screens and classification, in addition to managing clustered file servers
- Identity mapping (Mapping File, Active Directory, User Name Mapping, AD LS)
- Unmapped UNIX User Access (UUUA)
- Resume Key Manager
- Kerberos version 5 protocol
Specially hardened for Azure Marketplace by Tidal Media Inc. NFS server solution Image provides fast deployment with secure access. It is fully pre-configured and easy-to-maintain.
Benefits of NFS Server:
- NFS allows local access to remote files
- It uses standard client/server architecture for file sharing between all *nix based machines
- With NFS it is not necessary that both machines run on the same OS
- With the help of NFS you can configure centralized storage solutions
- Users get their data irrespective of physical location
- No manual refresh needed for new files
- Newer version of NFS also supports acl, pseudo root mounts
- Can be secured with Firewalls and Kerberos
