A reference Linux distribution optimized for Intel Architecture

Clear Linux OS is an open source, rolling-release Linux distribution, optimized for performance and security from the cloud to the Edge. Designed from the ground up, Clear Linux OS provides an industry blueprint on how to incorporate Intel® architecture features for a modern, modular Linux OS. Clear Linux OS is not based on any other Linux distro. Clear Linux OS updates are based on a rolling release that can occur daily, up to a few times per week. Each release has a unique version number that identifies every component in the OS from kernel, to driver, to tool, to GUI application. Most components are included in entities called 'bundles'. The OS comes with an auto-update feature that (if enabled) will update to the latest release as soon as they are available. The Clear Linux OS tenets: Performance: Build optimizations across the whole stack including platform, kernel, math libraries, middleware layers, frameworks and runtime. The Clear Linux team uses multiple methods to optimize for performance on Intel products: kernel configurations, compiler flags and automatic use of optimized binaries and libraries. On Intel's CPUs with AVX512 instructions, the AVX512 optimized library is auto selected at application startup. Security: Address high & critical level threats from the National Vulnerability Database prompt. Daily scans are done of security CVE's to ensure updates are done timely. Out of the box industry standard security features enabled, for example - IPTables, SSH, OpenSSL, IPSec VPN, Signed Update Content. Implementation of a unified "trust" store where packages point to one location to find certs, ensuring you can manage your trust policy consistently. Manageability: Designed so that the user is able to quickly and easily manage their custom configuration vs. system configurations. This strict separation between User and System files allows for easier manageability and simplifying customization. Customizable: The "Mixer" is the tool used by the Clear Linux OS team to generate official update content and releases. The update content generated by mixer is then consumed by swupd on a downstream client. The same mixer tool is available as part of Clear Linux OS to create your own customized update content and releases. Clear Linux OS is composed of many different open source software projects and welcomes all contributors to improve the project. Each piece of software within the work has its own license. Your use of each piece of software is governed by the terms of its accompanying license. In the product information links, there are several ways to report problems and bugs identified. As an open source project, users are welcome to contribute to this effort as well.
