Zones Migrate SQL to Azure
Zones offers three models for Azure SQL services: IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS. These models provide organizations with varying degrees of control over their SQL infrastructure and management tasks.
What Zones offers:
Azure IaaS SQL (SQL Server on Azure Virtual Machines): In the IaaS model, Azure provides the underlying infrastructure, including virtual machines, storage, and networking resources. Organizations can install and run their own SQL Server instances on these Azure VMs, similar to running them on-premises. This option offers maximum control and flexibility, allowing users to configure and manage the SQL Server environment to meet their specific needs. IaaS SQL is ideal for organizations looking to migrate existing SQL Server workloads to the cloud with minimal changes or those requiring complete control over their infrastructure.
Azure PaaS SQL (Azure SQL Database and Azure SQL Managed Instance): In the PaaS model, Azure provides a fully managed SQL service, handling the underlying infrastructure, OS, and database management tasks, such as patching, backups, and scaling. This allows organizations to focus on their data and applications without worrying about infrastructure management. Azure SQL Database is a single-database service, while Azure SQL Managed Instance offers a more comprehensive option for organizations seeking a higher degree of compatibility with on-premises SQL Server.
SaaS SQL Instances: In the SaaS model, Azure provides complete software solutions that include database services as a part of the offering. These solutions are fully managed by the service provider, and organizations do not need to handle any infrastructure or database management tasks. Users can access and interact with the software and data through a web browser or API, depending on the specific SaaS application. Examples of SaaS applications with SQL instances include Microsoft Dynamics 365 and Power BI.
In summary, Azure IaaS SQL provides the most control and flexibility by allowing organizations to manage their own SQL Server instances on Azure VMs. Azure PaaS SQL offers fully managed database services with varying degrees of compatibility, enabling organizations to focus on their data and applications. Finally, SaaS SQL instances provide end-to-end software solutions with built-in database services, simplifying application and data management for organizations.
