Azure Cosmos DB Reserved Capacity

Reserved instances (RIs) for Cosmos DB significantly reduce your Cosmos DB costs compared to pay-as-you-go prices.
With Azure Cosmos DB you can save even more money with our new Reserved Capacity pricing model. You can now buy Cosmos DB Reserved Capacity and enjoy savings up to 65%. The scope of the reserved capacity can be for the entire enrollment or for a specific subscription for one or three-year terms. With shared scope reservations all subscription(s) that match the attributes of the purchased reserved throughput will automatically get the savings benefit. Cosmos DB instances that are already running in those subscriptions or the ones that are newly created in those subscriptions will automatically get the benefit.
As a globally distributed database, the reserved throughput capacity for Cosmos DB applies to all Azure regions, all data models and all APIs. For example, if you have an application, you might purchase 2,000,000 RU/s in reserved capacity. Once you have done this, you can use that capacity to provision collections, tables, graphs, as desired in any region, for the duration of the reservation. If a customer exceeds the throughput on their Cosmos DB databases or containers (collections/graphs/tables) beyond the amount which was reserved via the reserved capacity, they will get charged normal hourly rate for the provisioned throughput.
At the end of the reservation term the reserved capacity benefit expires and the Cosmos DB databases and containers are billed at the regular price. Reservations do not auto-renew, to continue getting the billing benefit you need to purchase a new reserved throughput capacity at the end of the term.
