Azure Site Recovery Consult and Deployment: from 3-Wks Implementation
Protect yourself from IT infrastructure failures with Azure Site Recovery.
Protect yourself from IT infrastructure failures with Azure Site Recovery. Azure Site Recovery (ASR) is a robust solution that replicates workloads running on both physical and virtual machines (VMs) from a primary site to a secondary location. When an outage occurs at your primary site, you can seamlessly fail over to the secondary location and access your applications from there. Once the primary location is operational again, you have the option to fail back to it.
Intended Audience: This service is tailored for IT administrators, infrastructure managers, and cloud architects who need to establish disaster recovery capabilities for their VMware VMs or physical servers in Azure. Familiarity with VMware vSphere and Azure concepts is beneficial.
Key Considerations:
Deployment Planner Tool: The Site Recovery Deployment Planner is a command-line tool that assists in both Hyper-V to Azure and VMware to Azure disaster recovery scenarios. It remotely profiles your VMware VMs, providing insights into bandwidth and storage requirements for successful replication and test failover. No production impact occurs during profiling. You can run the tool without installing any Site Recovery components on-premises. Bandwidth and Storage Requirements: Allocate sufficient bandwidth based on your daily data-change rate to meet your desired Recovery Point Objective (RPO). Deploy the right number of configuration servers and process servers on-premises. Create the appropriate type and number of target Azure Storage accounts (standard or premium) considering growth over time. Core Components: Recovery Services Vault: The foundational component where backups are stored. Configuration Servers and Process Servers: Deploy these on-premises to manage communications and data replication. Azure Storage Accounts: Choose between standard or premium storage based on workload characteristics and Site Recovery limits. Achieving RPO: Understand the estimated network bandwidth required for delta replication. Determine the number of VMs to batch based on bandwidth and initial replication time. Plan for storage accounts and Azure cores. Testing Failover: Run test failovers to validate your setup. Ensure the Azure VM-recommended size aligns with your on-premises VMs.
