Squid is an excellent solution for broad caching and proxy requirements.
Linux 7.9 with Easy Squid Proxy Server
Squid is a full-featured caching proxy application that provides caching and proxy services for HTTP, FTP, and other network protocols. Squid is capable of caching and proxying SSL requests and caching DNS lookup results, as well as transparent caching. Squid also supports a set of caching protocols such as ICP (Internet Caching Protocol), HTCP (Hypertext Caching Protocol), CARP (Routing Caching Protocol), and WCCP (Content Redirection Caching Protocol).
As a caching proxy server, Squid can be used in several ways. When combined with a firewall, it can help with security. Multiple proxies can be used together. It can also determine what types of objects should be cached and for how long.
Squid offers a wide range of features:
- Distributing load over intercommunicating hierarchies of proxy servers
- Defining strict access control lists for all clients accessing the proxy server
- Allowing or denying access to specific Web pages using other applications
- Generating statistics about frequently-visited Web pages for the assessment of surfing habits
