With GeoServer as an open source server, your spatial information is made accessible to all. GeoServer supports a plethora of formats in map creations due to the implementation of Web Map Service. GeoServer is integrated with a free mapping library for quick and user-friendly map creation. GeoServer is created on Geotools which an open source Java GIS toolkit is.
It uses open standards for publishing data from any major spatial data source. It is designed for interoperability. GeoServer is an OGC compliant implementation of several open standards such as Web Feature Service (WFS), Web Map Service (WMS), and Web Coverage Service (WCS). GeoServer is developed, tested, and supported as the community-driven project by a diverse group of individuals and organizations around the world.
