Squid Easy is an open-source caching and forwarding web proxy server software that runs on Unix-like operating systems. It was originally developed as a research project at the National Laboratory for Applied Network Research (NLANR) by Duane Wessels in the early 1990s, and has since been maintained and improved by a community of developers worldwide.

Squid Easy is designed to improve web performance and reduce network bandwidth usage by caching frequently requested web pages, images, and other content. When a client requests a web page or file, Squid first checks its cache to see if it already has a copy of the requested content. If it does, Squid serves the content directly from its cache, reducing the time and network resources needed to download the content from the origin server. If the content is not in the cache, Squid forwards the request to the origin server, retrieves the content, and caches it for future requests.

Squid supports a wide range of caching and proxying features, including access controls, authentication, SSL/TLS encryption, URL rewriting, and content filtering.
