Tesseract is an open-source OCR engine that was developed at HP between 1984 and 1994.

The Tesseract engine was originally developed as proprietary software at Hewlett Packard labs in Bristol, England and Greeley, Colorado between 1985 and 1994, with more changes made in 1996 to port to Windows, and some migration from C to C++ in 1998.

Get Started with This Ready-To-Go Azure Solution

This readymade configuration management rule on linux distributions offered by Apps4Rent takes away all the complexities in integration to Azure. All you need to do is just download the custom-built image and you are ready to go.

If you only plan to do build from specific machine, you can grant that machine exclusive permission to connect to the Maven remotely with the following command. Make sure to replace remote_IP_address with the actual IP address of the machine you plan to connect with: sudo ufw allow from remote_IP_address to any port 3306.

Alternatively, you can allow connections to your Tesseract from any IP address with the following command: sudo ufw allow 3306.

Warning: This command will enable anyone to access your Application. Do not run it if your Ant holds any sensitive data.

Features of Tesseract on Debian10:

  • Tesseract can process right-to-left text such as Arabic or Hebrew.
  • Tesseract is suitable for use as a backend and can be used for more complicated OCR tasks including layout analysis by using a frontend such as OCRopus
  • Consistent usage across all projects.
  • Tesseract's output will have very poor quality if the input images are not preprocessed to suit it: Images (especially screenshots) must be scaled up such that the text x-height is at least 20 pixels.
