Start/Stop VMs during off hours - V2

The Start/Stop VMs v2 (preview) feature starts or stops Azure virtual machines (VMs) across multiple subscriptions. It starts or stops Azure VMs on user-defined schedules, provides insights through Azure Application Insights, and send optional notifications by using action groups. The feature can manage both Azure Resource Manager VMs and classic VMs for most scenarios.

The Start/Stop VMs V2 solution relies on the below Azure Services:

    • Function App: starts and stops your virtual machines on a schedule or by usage
    • Logic App: configure the schedule and your payload to act on the VM(s)
    • Application Insights: logs the telemetry on the operations performed
    • Dashboard: customer facing reports
    • Storage: logs the execution transactions in the table and uses queue to store the operation object between the application layer for processing
    • Monitor: alerts and email notification for VM state changes
