Icecast Server software for organizing streaming digital audio broadcasting
Linux 7.9 with Icecast Streaming Server
Icecast is a program for streaming media such as audio and video across a network. Different types of clients connect to the Icecast server, either to provide a "mount point", control the server, or listen to the audio being cast.
This is one of the easiest audio streaming solutions that doesn't even have a standard graphical shell. Working with the server is done using the web interface, and the configuration is changed through an XML file, so setting up the program will take time and some skills.
Features:
- Officially supports MP3 and the AAC family of codecs
- Higher performance - Lower CPU usage and higher listener capacity
- Easier to administer - Sensible defaults are provided
- Ogg FLAC metadata support - RSAS is the only streaming server that supports it!
- Live metadata is easy to get from JavaScript (via HTML5 Server-Sent Events)
- Built for the modern web: Supports CORS out-of-the-box, for easier player integration
- Compatible with HTML5 Media Source Extensions (better in-browser playback technology)
- Relaying streams doesn't add huge latency - it can be under 1 second.
- Fallback transitions don't kick listeners with AAC
- Supports HTTPS for Webhook source authentication
- A Metadata History API, which makes it easier to display recently played tracks in your player.
- Supports relaying HTTPS streams
