Consul Platform is a service mesh solution providing a distributed, highly available, and data center-aware platform for connecting, securing, and configuring services across any runtime platform or public and private cloud.

Consul facilitates service discovery, enabling services to autonomously register and find other services using DNS or HTTP interfaces. This eliminates the necessity for manual service setup. Additionally, Consul encompasses a distributed key-value store, which serves as a repository for storing service configurations and various metadata.

Built on top of the service discovery layer is Consul's health checking and failure detection. Services can provide regular health check updates, which the Consul will monitor to determine their availability. Consul will notify other interested parties if a service fails and can automatically remove the failed service from the service discovery listing.

Consul provides a range of supplementary features, such as a multi-datacenter federation, a web interface for monitoring services and health statuses, and numerous watchers for tracking changes to key-value data and health updates. Network traffic encryption is also available to enhance security and confidentiality during service registration and configuration access.
